Have Your Box And Get Paid Too!

By this point I’m hoping you’ve got your vision figured out and are ready to get rolling, right?

Cool, So Let’s Take The Next Steps!

So last week you defined what you wanted in life, business, money, and success and have hopefully made some positive changes on your own to get started towards those goals. Now is the time to start organizing your business in a way that resembles, well, a business!

Your Organizational Plan

The best way to get started on this is to begin thinking about your business as serving two groups of people:

  • The Shareholders (Owners of the business)
  • The Employees (Those who work IN the business)

Regardless of the size of your affiliate you still have these two groups of people, however in the beginning, these two groups consist of one person each, you and you. If you are the sole employee of your affiliate and you also own the affiliate then you get to wear both of these hats, make sense? Cool, lets move on…Your job as a Shareholder/Owner is to provide the big strategic vision you came up with last week and to hold the Employees accountable for taking the necessary steps towards reaching your vision. Your job as an Employee is to make the Shareholders happy. Now I know this all sounds a little crazy when you are talking about the same person but hang with me. Being able to keep these two roles separated, if only in your head, will help free you from becoming tied down working IN the business and help you take a step back to look at the big picture: Your vision of success.

The Separation Of Work And Life

The next part of your new organization is to define the roles you’d like to have in your company and assign an employee to each. So for example:

  • President/Chief Operations Officer: You
  • Vice-President of Finance: You
  • Director Of Training: You
  • Administration/Receptionist: You

The list can go on and on. The bottom line is that you need to identify which roles you will need to make your business successful, put them on paper, write down what each of those roles is responsible for and who they report to, and assign a name to each position (Yes, even if they are all just you!). Don’t skip this step if you plan on growing and hiring an employee of any kind. Now I know that some of you must be thinking that I’ve let all the bacon I’ve eaten today go to my head, asking you to take time out of your already busy day to complete these tasks, but I promise you that this will pay off in the end!

A System For Everyone!

So now that you have identified all of the positions you need to reach your Vision Of Success, and who is responsible for each, you’ll be able to create a detailed road map outlining how you want each job done, exactly the way you want it done. Write everything down, document everything you do each day and describe exactly how you want each of those tasks done. What does all this give you? A system for that first employee you bring on to follow. Essentially, if you hire the right person, who understands your vision and can follow your system, than you have just made a clone of yourself. Someone who conducts business in the exact same way as you would. They answer the phone exactly how you would, they open the gym, clean the bathrooms, structure their classes, greet your clients, and market your business in the exact way that you do.

Work The System

Once you have created these “Systems” your job as Shareholder/Owner is to make sure that each and every employee of the business is working their system, following your plan for success. With constant improvement, tweaking, and optimizing of each of these blueprints you will have created a well oiled machine that can just about run itself. Now that has got to sound good right? Allowing you to free your time for what really matters in your life: family, friends, vacations, going to the Games without shutting down your box for a few days. You name it, the sky is the limit!
